“Mess-A-Stomp” is Mary Lou Williams’ first recorded composition and probably her first ever notated and orchestrated composition. It was written for Andy Kirk and His Twelve Clouds of Joy on the occasion of a Brunswick recording session that took place circa November 07, 1929, in Kansas City.
