The Devil

1962

Full score and parts/Full score only

Composed in the early 1950s in a collaborative effort between Mary Lou Williams and singer Ada Moore, “The Devil” was arranged for choir and piano in 1962 by Williams, for both live and studio performances. The studio recording was featured alongside “Saint Martin de Porres” on Williams’ own label Mary Records debut release.
The primary source for this edition is a vocal score that was most likely copied several years after the recording. Several mistakes have been corrected through the study of several short scores and sketches. It also includes a diplomatic transcription of a short score showing an anterior state of the piece.
